Privacy Policy
The short version: the tester reads and displays your controller’s input inside your browser, and the website’s code doesn’t send it anywhere. The only information you send us is what you type into the contact form. The site currently runs no analytics and shows no advertising. Like any website, it is delivered by a hosting provider that processes standard technical request data.
1. Introduction and scope
This policy explains what information is involved when you use JoystickCheck (https://joystickcheck.com, the “website”). The website is built and maintained by Kalana Sandeep and operated by Kalana Sandeep, an individual rather than a company (“we”, “us”). It applies to this website only, not to other websites it links to.
2. Information you provide
The website has no accounts, sign-up, comment section or file upload. The one place it asks you for personal information is the contact form, which is optional. If you use it, you give us:
- your name;
- your email address, so we can reply;
- a subject; and
- your message, including anything you choose to write in it.
We use this information only to read your message, reply to you and, where it helps, to investigate a problem with the tester. We don’t use it for marketing and don’t add it to any mailing list. Please don’t include sensitive personal information in your message.
How a message is sent. When you press “Send message”, your browser sends the form to a small server function of this website (a Cloudflare Pages Function) over HTTPS. The function checks the fields (including simple spam checks) and passes the message to an email delivery service, Resend, which delivers it to the inbox configured for the website (the operator’s private email account). The form tells you whether the message was accepted for delivery; it cannot tell you that it was read. The website has no database and does not store submitted messages itself, and the function doesn’t log message contents. Once delivered, the message exists in the delivery service’s records and in the operator’s email account.
3. Controller inputs and browser processing
The tester uses your browser’s Gamepad API to read the controllers connected to your device. The browser makes available each controller’s name and ID string, its mapping, button states, stick and axis positions, and trigger values. The page shows these on your screen and keeps a short history in the page’s memory to draw the input activity, the event log (the latest 50 events per controller) and the update-rate estimate.
The website’s code does not send these readings to us or to any third party, and does not save them in local storage or cookies. They are cleared when you close or reload the page. This describes what the website’s own code does; we can’t control browser extensions or other software on your device.
4. Technical information and hosting
The website is a static site with no database. Apart from the contact-form function described in section 2, it has no server-side code of ours that handles your requests. It is delivered by a hosting provider, Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page, or submits the contact form, standard technical information is sent to the host, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. The host processes this to deliver the website and protect it from abuse and keeps logs under its own practices. This is separate from controller input, which is not part of those requests. We do not add logging of our own to the website.
5. Local storage and browser preferences
If you use the theme switch, your choice of light or dark theme is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key jc-theme so the site looks the same next time. It stays on your device and is not sent to us. If you never use the switch, nothing is stored and the site follows your device’s light or dark setting. You can remove the saved choice by clearing this website’s data in your browser settings.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
The website’s own code does not set cookies. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies, for example to protect the site from automated traffic; these are controlled by the provider and described in its own policy. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Analytics and measurement services
No analytics or measurement service is currently enabled on the website, and no analytics script is loaded. If we add one in the future, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before it runs.
8. Google AdSense and advertising
Google AdSense is not installed on the website, and the website does not currently show advertisements or load advertising scripts. No advertising cookies are set by the website.
If advertising services such as Google AdSense are introduced in the future, this policy will be updated before any advertisement is shown to describe the services involved, the cookies or identifiers they use and the choices available to you, and a consent mechanism will be added where required.
9. Third-party services and external links
The website’s hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes the technical information described above, and runs the contact-form function, under its own privacy policy. The email delivery service Resend processes the contact form’s fields (name, email address, subject and message) in order to deliver them, under its own privacy policy. These two providers are the only services that handle submitted messages. The website contains links to other websites, such as technical references and the maintainer’s public profiles. We don’t control those sites, and their own privacy policies apply once you follow a link.
10. Data retention and security
Controller readings are not retained beyond your visit. The theme preference stays on your device until you clear it. A contact-form message is kept in the operator’s email account only as long as needed to answer you and to improve the tester; we have not set an automatic deletion period, and we will consider a request to delete a message sooner (see section 12). The email delivery service and the hosting provider keep their own records under their own practices, and we don’t control how long they do. Hosting logs are kept by the host according to its own practices.
The tester requires a secure (HTTPS) connection, and the website sends security headers, including a content security policy that limits what the pages can load. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
11. Children’s privacy
The website is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
12. Your privacy choices and rights
You can choose not to use the theme switch, clear this website’s stored data in your browser at any time, or disconnect your controller. Because the website itself collects little information, the only personal information we usually hold is a message you sent through the contact form.
If you have sent a message, you can contact the operator through the Contact page to ask what information we hold about it, to ask us to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. We will deal with a request where reasonably possible and subject to applicable law and any legitimate need to keep information, for example to handle a dispute or meet a legal obligation. We can only look for messages that we can match to the name or email address you give us, and we may need to check that a request comes from the same person. We don’t promise a particular response time.
We can act on the copy in the operator’s email account, which we control. We can’t guarantee deletion everywhere: a submission is intended to be transmitted through Cloudflare and Resend to the configured inbox, and those providers may process it and keep their own records under their own policies, which we can’t change.
Sri Lanka has a Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, which is being brought into operation in stages. We have not been able to confirm from an up-to-date official source which of its provisions, including individual rights and enforcement, currently apply to this website, so this policy does not state that any particular statutory right or procedure is in force and does not create one. We will update this policy if that becomes clear. Nothing in this policy limits any rights you may have under the data protection or consumer laws of the place where you live, including any right to complain to a data protection authority.
13. International processing
Our hosting provider and our email delivery service operate globally, so the technical information described in section 4 and the contact-form fields described in section 2 may be processed in countries other than the one where you live. We don’t transfer controller input anywhere. This policy doesn’t claim to satisfy the legal requirements of any particular country.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if we add a service such as analytics or advertising. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed, and a material change will be reflected here before it takes effect.
15. Contact information
For privacy questions, send a message through the contact form; no email address is published on this website. See also the Terms of Service.
